Way of the Silent Thief

~ All you ever wanted to know about the domain and the girl behind it

This domain was named after my original web collective, Urban Geisha. I used to use the phrase as an alais, but after a while it became synonymous with my personal website. I sneakily borrowed the phrase from a Red Earth advert which I saw while shopping one day back in 1999 and it's stuck with me since because of the fantastic play on words. I thought the name was an appropriate title because it reflects me and my love for cities/urban life as well as representing my fascination with geisha and Japanese culture/history. A perfect amalgamation of old and new.

The name was finally turned into a .net on 14 January 2005, and was sitting unused until July 2006, when I finally decided to compile my collective. It is currently celebrating its third anniversary and with that milestone I finally decided to make it as organised and complete as possible, and for it to host/link all of my web projects. This is the version you're currently viewing, best seen on Firefox.

Into the Past

I've had numerous other collectives/websites over the years. I used to have a blog called Just Breathe hosted by blogger, which I maintained religiously since I was 14. I then applied for hosting on a friend's domain sunprincess.nu and started the Urban Geisha collective there. I then took quite a break from webdesign when I left for University from about 2002-2004.

I was then given my own domain, empressia.com by one of my school friends and I decided to pick up webdesign again. I started my blog again on that domain and soon discovered fanlistings. It soon became host to my modest collective, until I finally decided to purchase hugandroll.com to be a separate fanlistings collective domain. I eventually gave the domain name back to my friend and purchased Urban Geisha instead.

Eventually I think I just wanted a new, more sophisticated domain name, so I bought Lying-Awake.net, which is still home to my fanlistings collective today. I now maintain both that domain and this in tandem.
